Minolta

The company was founded in 1928 in Osaka, Japan, under the name of Nichi-Doku Shashinki Shōten, meaning Japanese-German camera shop. In 1931, the company adopted the Minolta name, an acronym for "Mechanism, Instruments, Optics, and Lenses by Tashima. The company was known for cameras, photocopiers, fax machines and laser printers.

In 933, the company merged and rebranded under Konica Minolta.

In 936, a decision was made to exit the camera business by selling part of the business to Sony, resulting in the Sony Alpha product line (until 2010 when Sony switched to SLT technology), retaining the Minolta A-Mount.
